KK One: Laguarda.Low Architects. Shenzhen, China. 1,130,211 sqft. Completed 2016.

Design and development of the KK One retail podium exterior facade, as well as various interior features of the shopping mall. My team formulated the building's skin to be responsive to openings and accesses along the urban edge through a series of controlled "sweeps" and "lifts", which in turn creates a strong mediation between the scale of the podium base and the office and residential towers sitting above. Further animated by a series of colored LED lights embedded along the panel joints and foldings, the delicate cladding system at once harnesses the kinetic energy of the surrounding urban context, as well as the alludes to the rich ecological landscape of Shenzhen City-- by adopting the inherent properties of the native butterfly species, as means of sculpting and contouring the built form.
In the process, I sketched, as well as digitally modeled and sculpted the sweeping form in multiple iterations as the means to study, develop, and finalize the design. The end result was an accurate and polished model ready for consolidation,  rendering, and documentation.
