Thaihot: Laguarda.Low Architects. Fuzhou, China. 330,000 sqm. Completed 2016.
Located at a major intersection in Fuzhou, Thaihot Plaza provides a central hub of public activity for the city and is designed to promote movement between the indoor and outdoor zones. In this project, I helped design and develop various interior features that all tie together to constitute the mall's experiential logic. First articulated at the south (main) entrance, a rippling ceiling design with dramatic lighting greets the visitors with a strong sense of arrival, and informs them of the fluid formal language that defines and ties together a multitude of spatial experiences such as the central atrium and the elevator lobby, as well as various architectural elements and amenities throughout the interior space.
