Sequence/Movement: Study. Berkeley Arch 100B, Spring 2011.
This study investigates in movement and experience through the construction of a spatial sequence that moves both horizontally and vertically within a defined volume. Beginning with an analytical photo montage, the composition is guided toward a spiraling scheme that is characterized by a series of rapid shifts from private to public, interior to exterior, dark to light, concealment to view. Formally, the strategic intervention of negative spaces into the given positive volume generates a carefully choreographed sequence of stairs, ramps, and landings that mediates visitors experiences as they transitions through this space.
